Oden bless me as I walk alone
Beaten down with stick and stone
And though I'm bound to this rough road
I still give praise for all I've known

Every day, new lessons grow
Mostly reaping what I sow
You've taught me all of this, I know
And onwards on this path I'll go

Though I stumble, and I fall
I rise through challenge, above all
Never caving, standing tall
Knowing I'll go to Valhall

Many folks don't share my views
Some think they are just old news
Still more think I'm a bit loose
But I know, I know the truth

This is my path as a skald
Though it empty seem and cold
It leads to glorious verse and song
I know you're with me, all along.
This is not the original of this poem, but a tweaked version with the help of the always lovely :iconodins-gift: who is a great adviser for my many poetic sufferings.

The original was a bit more wordy, lacked a bit of flow...but I still like it due to the fact that it held my own (and only my) emotion...while posting this one up is better, to me it feels slightly alien because it is not only my emotion behind it.

Still, she was a tremendous help and I tried (thought) about combining the two, but this was a better call to me.

Read some of her work at, well worth the visit

Many think that the religion is dead, but it is alive and well.

I am very happy you decided to post this lovely piece, and I'm honored that I could contribute a few suggestions to this version of it :-). Not that I didn't love your original already ;-).

As regards poetry, there's always the dichotomy of writing for oneself, for the uniqueness of one's own emotion or the specialness of a moment, and/or writing for the enjoyment of a wider audience. Sometimes, ideally, both coincide. I myself though have saved quite a number of my "originals" with stuff that didn't make it into the final, "official" version. I guess that's quite normal in the writing process.

I love it! There is a great deal of energy behind this piece, it's very compelling. Keep standing tall, friend-- and remember that you never truly walk alone!

This really was a great poem. I know it doesn't mean much, but this is really what I needed right now.

It means a lot to hear that, because that's why I write

I'm very glad you enjoyed it and I had good enough sense to upload it.
I was really on the fence about this one.
